SuperWhisper vs Wispr Flow: Which One to Choose in 2026?
SuperWhisper and Wispr Flow are the two most talked-about AI voice dictation apps of 2026. They make the same promise: you press a keyboard shortcut, you speak, and clean text appears in whatever app is open. Where they part ways is architecture: SuperWhisper can transcribe entirely on your machine, while Wispr Flow works only in the cloud. Here is what that changes for pricing, ease of use and privacy, followed by the question this head-to-head leaves out when you work in Europe.
The verdict in three lines
- SuperWhisper if you want to pay less ($8.49/month, or $249.99 once and for all), dictate offline and fine-tune the tool yourself.
- Wispr Flow if you want an app that works out of the box, meeting notes and real team features (shared workspace, SSO, centralized billing).
- Neither if your dictations must not leave Europe: both companies are American and their cloud processing stays in the United States. Why it matters.

Pricing: SuperWhisper costs almost half as much
This is the clearest gap. SuperWhisper Pro costs $8.49/month, or $84.99/year, with a 40% student discount and a 30-day refund. Wispr Flow Pro costs $15/month, or $12/month billed annually, which comes to $144 a year. Over a full year, you pay $85 on one side and $144 on the other.
SuperWhisper also offers a lifetime license at $249.99, paid once. It pays for itself against SuperWhisper's own annual plan after about three years, and much sooner against Wispr Flow. Wispr Flow, for its part, has two tiers above Pro: Growth at $23/month ($18 billed annually), which adds SSO/SAML, individual usage reports and HIPAA with a signed BAA, then an Enterprise plan on quote with SCIM provisioning, audit logs and managed deployment.
One detail matters if you work in euros: both list their prices in US dollars. Your real cost moves with the exchange rate, and the VAT on a foreign invoice is not always what you expect.
The real divide: local or cloud
SuperWhisper: transcription can stay on your machine
This is SuperWhisper's core argument. The app ships with Whisper models that run locally: the audio goes nowhere, and dictation works without a connection. The developer notes that this mainly holds on Apple Silicon Macs, as Intel Macs work better with the cloud models. The free plan is entirely local: dictation, custom vocabulary, text replacements and file transcription, with two modes.
There is an important nuance that comparisons often gloss over. What you pay for with the Pro plan is precisely the cloud voice models, the AI modes, real-time transcription and speaker separation. In other words, the 100% local setup and the best text output are not the same configuration. If you turn on the features you are paying for, your data goes back to the cloud.
Wispr Flow: cloud only, with a privacy mode
Wispr Flow does not offer local processing. Every dictation goes to its servers, where the text is transcribed and then rewritten. The company makes up for it with a privacy mode with zero data retention and solid security certifications. It also offers a Context Awareness feature that looks at your active window to transcribe more accurately: you can turn it off, but it is on by default.
The choice between the two approaches comes down to this: local gives you control and offline use, cloud gives you power and rewriting. We cover the trade-offs in detail in our guide to local vs cloud voice dictation.
Ease of use: a tool to configure vs a tool that works out of the box
SuperWhisper is built to be configured. You choose modes (raw dictation, cleanup, email, and your own custom modes), you write your prompts, and you can plug in your own API keys and pick the AI model. That is a real asset for a developer or a power user, and a real learning curve for everyone else. Many people spend more time tweaking than dictating.
Wispr Flow takes the opposite approach: few settings, automatic AI rewriting, a shared dictionary, text snippets, and dedicated extensions for code editors such as Cursor and Windsurf. You install it and it dictates.
If your criterion is “how long before it is actually useful to me”, Wispr Flow wins. If your criterion is “how far can I push the tool”, SuperWhisper wins.
Teams and compliance
For individual use, SuperWhisper is generous: a single Pro license covers all your devices, Mac, PC and phone. To equip a team, Wispr Flow is far better tooled: a shared workspace, centralized billing and priority support from the Pro plan, then SSO/SAML, admin controls and usage reports on Growth, and finally SCIM provisioning, audit logs and managed deployment on Enterprise.
On security, both display SOC 2 Type II, and HIPAA on their higher tiers. These certifications say how the data is protected. They say nothing about where it is processed, and that is exactly where the comparison stops too early.
So, which of the two should you choose?
- Choose SuperWhisper if you are on an Apple Silicon Mac, want to be able to dictate offline, care about price and don't mind configuring a tool. The lifetime license is the most rational offer on the market for daily use over several years.
- Choose Wispr Flow if you want it to work right away, if you also dictate on your phone, if you need meeting notes, or if you are equipping a team and need SSO and a single invoice.
That verdict holds for a user in the United States. In Europe, one criterion is missing.
The question this comparison does not settle: which jurisdiction your dictations fall under
SuperWhisper and Wispr Flow are both American companies. Wispr Flow processes every dictation on infrastructure in the United States. SuperWhisper keeps the audio on your machine as long as you stay local, but as soon as you turn on the cloud voice models and AI modes, in other words what you are paying for, the audio and the text also go to US infrastructure.
Data processed or stored in the United States can fall under the US CLOUD Act, whatever the provider's certifications. This is a question of jurisdiction, not of technical security: we cover it in detail in Cloud Act and GDPR: why hosted in Europe is not enough and in voice dictation and GDPR: where does your voice go.
For many users, this point is theoretical. For a lawyer, an accountant, an HR team or a public body, it is a deal-breaker. The right question is then no longer “local or cloud”, but: are my dictations processed in Europe, under a data processing agreement I can sign? Neither SuperWhisper nor Wispr Flow can answer yes to that question.
Fast Dictate: the same comfort, processed in Europe
Fast Dictate works on the same principle as the two apps above: a keyboard shortcut, dictation in any app, and text cleaned up by AI, without the hesitations or the mistakes. Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, custom vocabulary, text shortcuts and formatting rules.
The difference is where your dictations are processed:
- Plus Plan, €18.90/month excl. VAT: servers in Europe, DPA included.
- Pro Plan, €23.90/month excl. VAT: ISO 27001 servers in Europe, custom DPA, security documentation and priority support.
Billing in euros, support in your language, and 2,000 free words per week to try it without a credit card.

What Fast Dictate does not do
Better to say it plainly, because it is what makes the rest of this comparison useful:
- No 100% offline mode. If your absolute priority is that the audio never leaves your machine, even encrypted and even with zero retention, SuperWhisper in local mode is the right tool, and we will not try to convince you otherwise.
- No lifetime license. Fast Dictate is a subscription, with an annual price lower than the monthly one, but no one-time payment.
How to test all three in a week
All three have a free tier, so the fastest way to decide is on your own texts rather than on reviews:
- Pick three real tasks: a long email, a meeting report, and a technical note full of your industry jargon.
- Dictate all three in each app, in your working language, without correcting anything.
- Count the time you spend proofreading. It is the only number that matters, and it tells you more than any advertised accuracy rate.
- Before you put client data into any of them, check where each tool processes the audio, and whether the company can provide a data processing agreement.
Frequently asked questions
SuperWhisper or Wispr Flow: which is more accurate?
Both claim more than 100 languages and rely on speech recognition models of the same generation. Neither company publishes a comparable accuracy measurement, so the gap mostly comes down to what happens after transcription: the AI cleanup of the text. Test both on your own language and industry vocabulary before you pay.
Does SuperWhisper really work offline?
Yes, with the local Whisper models, especially on Apple Silicon Macs. The developer states that Intel Macs work better with the cloud models. However, the paid features most users come for (cloud voice models, AI modes, real-time transcription) go through the cloud, and therefore leave your machine.
Is Wispr Flow GDPR compliant?
Wispr Flow holds recognized certifications (SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001), states that it aligns with the GDPR and offers a privacy mode with zero data retention. The open question for a European organization is location: processing takes place in the United States, which can fall under the US CLOUD Act. A certification answers “how is it secured”, not “under which jurisdiction”.
Is there a European alternative to SuperWhisper and Wispr Flow?
Yes. Fast Dictate works on the same principle (a keyboard shortcut, dictation in any app, text cleaned up by AI) on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, with processing in Europe on the Plus Plan, and on ISO 27001 certified servers in Europe on the Pro Plan. The free plan gives you 2,000 words per week, no credit card required.
